Shimabuku, citrus and human

Updated: Jun 9

Shimabuku's work (Kobe, Japan, 1969) seeks to make the everyday unusual and is often inspired by personal anecdotes, small details of nature, collective experiences or humorous and poetic discoveries made on his travels. His performances and installations propose new ways of life and new methods of communication.

Through his affective and humorous performative actions, Shimabuku conveys the simplicity of everyday coexistence and the beauty of the relationship between species.

Shimabuku's The Octopus, the Citrus, The Human at Centro Botin is a tender invitation to see the world through play, poetry, and quiet wonder. It reminded me that art can be both disarming and deeply human.
